Dr Alan Nazha (B Med, FANZCA, FIPP, CIPS, FFPMANZCA, ABHM) is the founder and director of
Sydney Pain Specialists and a Specialist Pain Management Physician with broad expertise in
advanced interventional pain techniques.
He completed his anaesthetic training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2011 before undertaking
subspecialty Pain Medicine training at the Michael J Cousins Pain Management and Research
Centre, Royal North Shore Hospital, Concord Hospital, and Hunter Pain Specialists. He achieved a
Merit listing as the leading candidate in the Pain Medicine fellowship examinations and went on to
attain the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) and Certified Interventional Pain
Sonologist (CIPS) qualifications through the World Institute of Pain, along with board certification in
Headache Medicine (ABHM).
At Sydney Pain Specialists, Dr Nazha leads a multidisciplinary team of pain physicians,
physiotherapists, psychologists, nursing staff, and allied health clinicians, working closely with
specialists and GPs to provide personalised and comprehensive care. His clinical interests include
spinal and neuropathic pain, persistent post-surgical pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and
cranio-orofacial, head, neck, and facial pain. He utilises a wide range of advanced imaging modalities
including ultrasound, CT guidance, fluoroscopy, microendoscopy, and biplanar ultrasound to deliver
precise and minimally invasive treatments.
Dr Nazha holds appointments at The Mater Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Norwest Private
Hospital, and East Sydney Private Hospital, and previously served as Head of the Nepean Hospital
Pain Unit until 2024. He contributes to national and international leadership roles including previously
having served as the Chair of the Faculty of Pain Medicine NSW Regional Committee, and currently
as a Board Director for the Neuromodulation Society Australia and New Zealand, and participation in
the Professional Services Review (PSR) scheme. He remains an active member of several
professional organisations including the International Neuromodulation Society, the International
Association for the Study of Pain, the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, and the American
Interventional Headache Society.
Dr Nazha is engaged in ongoing clinical research through Sydney Pain Specialists, with particular
focus on novel neuromodulation therapies and advanced interventional techniques. His commitment
to education includes serving as an examiner for the Faculty of Pain Medicine and previously as an
EMST instructor and examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He regularly mentors
pain physicians, surgeons, radiologists, medical students, and allied health professionals. Sydney
Pain Specialists also functions as a teaching clinic for the University of Notre Dame Australia,
fostering continual learning and clinical excellence.
